Elastomeric shaft coupling with accuracy and increased resistance to torsion. The GTE7590 couplings have a φ160mm external diameter and are suitable to accommodate 2517 taper bush type with standard shaft diameter Φ16 Φ18 Φ19 Φ20 Φ22 Φ24 Φ25 Φ28 Φ30 Φ32 Φ35 Φ38 Φ40 Φ42 Φ45 Φ48 Φ50 Φ55 Φ60 Φ65mm and keyway. Make sure when you purchase the GTE coupling that you have the right taper bush type 2517 with the desired bore diameter of the first shaft. The GTE is only the one half of the coupling and to complete the coupling you will need another half GTI7590 (or GTE7590) with the corresponding bore diameter of the second shaft you possess. It is essential that you also have the elastic coupling which comes in three colors (black EN7590 red ER7590 yellow EG7590) depending on the quality of the manufacturing material. The GTE receives the taper bush externally while the GTI receives the taper bush internally (from the elastic coupling side). In case the shaft you want to install the coupling to does not have any standard diameter you can use the SG type which has only a small pilot bore and usually requires boring in the lathe and making a keyway. The design of flexible couplings is characterized by two cast iron hubs having each stubby protrusions around their perimeters pointing towards the opposing hub. The two hubs mesh loosely together and the gaps between them are filled with blocks of elastomeric material molded into an asterisk-shaped element called “spider”. Couplings are elements connecting two rotating shafts and beyond transmitting power from one shaft to the other they perform the following functions: Ensure a torque transmission free from shocks by damping any torsional vibrations either due to load or self-induced Minimize torque shocks and peaks at a starting phase Compensate for slight angular and parallel shaft misalignments. General features. In flexible couplings the spider is the element determinant for the torque rating of every coupling. Its constructive material can make a significant difference in the coupling response to contrast factors as vibration temperature chemicals misalignment high RPM. The great advantage of flexible couplings lies in their “fail-safe” design as the coupling is not necessarily destroyed or rendered inoperable if the spider breaks away during operation. The system will continue to function in safety conditions preventing critical system downtime until the spider can be replaced at a more convenient moment. Applications. Flexible couplings are generally recommended for continuous-duty electric motor-driven machinery pumps gearboxes etc.
